Permanent lip liner and lip color treatments or lip blush and neutralization can improve the appearance of lips for both women and men. It helps the lips to appear more defined and fuller without surgery or fillers. These lip treatments can also aid in restoring color to lips that are too pale or need that extra something. If you are thinking of getting a lip blush or neutralization procedure, contact Blade to Beauty LLC in Delmar, MD, today.
Semi-permanent lip blushing infuses lips with tiny dots of pigment (essentially, organic or inorganic natural pigments or cosmetic tattoo ink) for a natural-looking color that never smudges or budges.
Everyone’s skin is different, so the results vary, but you can expect your newly colored lips to last for two to five years. The darker the lip-blushing color, the longer it lasts. Color retention depends on your health, lifestyle, and proper aftercare.
Pain levels vary from person to person. Strong medical-grade topical anesthetic cream is used before and during your procedure to keep you as pain-free as possible.
One appointment usually creates the desired color in most cases, but if you need to, you can do a second session six to 10 weeks later to touch up the color. Immediately following the treatment, the lips will be swollen, dry, and tight, and the color will be at its brightest. It's essential to keep the lips well-hydrated with Vaseline for the next two weeks. By the end of the first week, the lips will scab, and the scabs will fall off. Whatever you do, don’t pick or peel them. Then, the newly colored lips will emerge.
Like microblading, it will take about a full month to see the results and for the lips to fully heal. If you don’t like your new lips, we recommend consulting with a dermatologist to see if laser removal is the way to go. Please note: Most tattoo removal lasers are too aggressive for the lips and could leave the skin darker. Since lip blushing is a semi-permanent treatment, the effects will fade with time.
Lip blushing works across the board for all ages, lip colors, thicknesses, and shapes, especially asymmetrical ones. This treatment is great for lips that have lost their natural pigment. But as with all beauty treatments, there are some exceptions to the rule and a few things to consider. Some medical issues, like precancerous lesions or spots, may force you to stick with lipstick and gloss. Also, if you experience cold sores or oral herpes, lip blushing can instigate an episode, so get a prescription beforehand for an antiviral medication like Valtrex to help mitigate the occurrence of an outbreak as the lips heal.
As always, my goal is to match YOUR goals! Please reach out with any further questions if needed!
Lip blushing is not for everyone. If any of the following apply to you, this procedure is not recommended.
If you are under a doctor’s care and have questions about being able to have this procedure, it is your responsibility to meet with your doctor and get written approval.
** Please note: Even if none of the above apply, lip blushing cannot be guaranteed. This is a cosmetic tattooing procedure, and the skin can be unpredictable. It is up to your skin to retain the pigment. Generally, results are successful; however, due to skin type, healing, or bleeding during the procedure, some results can differ. **
